At long last, paving has begun on the first phase of the WOW Trail. GMI Asphalt and James Piscopo General Contractors began paving operations on Friday, completing about 2000 feet by the end of the day. Pavement was laid between Moulton Street and the Bisson/Messer Street intersection.

Paving is expected to continue on Monday thanks to the nice weather expected - sunny and 60 degrees. The section of the trail between Moulton Street and Lakeport Square will not be completed until next spring due to a necessary redesign of a retaining wall. The WOW Trail will hold a formal ribbon cutting this Spring 2010 once all Phase 1 construction has been completed.

Between now and December, construction crews will complete installation of fencing and stabilizaton of soils prior for the winter. In addition, a faux brick 'rumble strip' will be imprinted and colored along the outer 2 feet of the widened Messer Street sidewalk. Signs, trail head kiosks and the retaining wall will be done in the Spring of 2010.

PLEASE do not enter the WOW Trail construction area while crews are working!

Remember: walking on railroad tracks is dangerous and constitutes trespassing
